DIY Fixing Broken Powder

I've seen this on Pintrest for the last few years and I admit I got excited when I dropped a powder I like so I could try it out. I wouldn't say it was good as new but it works pretty well. Here's how to do it step by step.

Here's the broken compact. It's Physician's Formula Argan Wear Ultra Nourishing Argan Oil Face Powder $13.99 which I use to soften and enhance BB creams. It's a silky formula and feels good on. It was in my clutch during a bachlorette party and looked like this at the end of the night. So sad : (

Here's what you need to fix it: plastic wrap, a plastic knife, and rubbing alcohol (Pintrest wanted me to use 70% but all I had was 90% and it seemed to work fine).

Put the plastic wrap over the compact and seal it so no powder can get out.

Use the end of the knife to break up the powder into a million tiny pieces.

Remove the plastic wrap and it will look like this (but it probably could have been broken up more and been easier to work with).

Next your going to pour the rubbing alcohol on the powder. Note how I have punctured holes in the foil so only a little comes out at a time. An eye dropper would work too.

Pour small amounts in until it's all covered but not drenched.

Use the blunt side of the knife to smooth down the powder. A small spatula would work too.

Here's what it looks like when it is all smoothed out.

I let it dry for 24 hours before I messed with it. Had I broken it up more it would have been smoother but it worked perfectly well. My brush picked up the powder very well. It's not as smooth as it was before but it's still completely usable.

Here's my make up done with the fixed powder on.
