My Top Five Foundations

Picking a foundation can be extremely difficult. Everyone has different needs and there are so many to choose from. Here are my top five picks, why I love them and how to use them.

Long Wear - Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup $39.50
This is my favorite stay pretty ALL DAY long foundation. It requires a lot of work to apply, it's a very thick creamy liquid. I use my Tarte Airbrush Finish Bamboo Foundation ($34) to apply it then I use an Oval Foundation Brush ($10) from Amazon with NYX Honey Dew Me Up Skin Serum & Primer ($17) on the brush to blend the foundation in. Without that extra step it doesn't blend very well and unless the color is perfectly matched to your skin, which is never is, this foundation can look very heavy on. You could use a blending sponge with your regular serum and get similar results. When done right this foundation looks perfect and lasts for 12+ hours, no other foundation can really compete. Of course for maximum results use a primer like NYX Pore Filler ($14).

Long Wear - Revlon Color Stay Makeup $12.99
If you're just not going to spend $40 on a foundation or you aren't willing to do all the extra work this is the next best product. You won't look as flawless as the Estee Lauder but this foundation does last for 12+ hours. I still use the Tarte foundation brush but the second step isn't as necessary. Its creamy but more lightweight. This is also one of the best foundations for fair skin. They have lots of colors on that end of the spectrum.

I really love this gel foundation. Combined with Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Setting Powder ($33) you won't look like you have any make up on at all! Except all those imperfections and discolorations are gone. This one I also apply with a brush and smooth out with a blending sponge. The gel seems weird at first and it's a little cold but it just blends beautifully on your skin.

This is my go to quick foundation. It glides on and blends easily and leaves you with a healthy glow. If you're not into doing a lot of work this is a good option for you. It comes in a lot of color tones so it's easy to find a good match. On a side note, I hate the cushion version of this foundation, with in hours your shiny and it doesn't blend nearly as well.

Stick - Clinique Chubby in the Nude Foundation Stick $24
This stick is a great option when you are short on time. I mark up my face then blend it with a blending sponge and that's it you're done. It'll last about 6 hours, a little longer if you use a setting powder or a spray like Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray ($31). It doesn't come in 10,000 colors but it blends really well so just get as close as you can and let it do it's thing.
